Hal Fryar was chosen for the Three Stooges Movie "The Outlaws is Coming" because he was a host for a local Indianapolis, Indiana childrens' show on WFBM-TV that ran from 1960-1972 that highlighted the old 3 Stooges shorts. He appeared under the name "Harlow Hickenlooper" and was one of a trio of hosts along with Curley Myers and Captain Star (Jerry Vance aka Larry Vincent) sang songs and did skits for a studio audience of children. He was also the host for several other children's shows over 43 years in local television and is highlighted in the book "Hi there Boys and Girls, America's Local Children's TV Programs" (2001) author: Tim Hollis.

My brother and I were just talking about old shows and things we did "back in the day" and I was telling my kids about this show. My son immediately went to the computer and found this site! I immediately shared with them the wonderful Harlow & Curley Show! I have a very fond memory of being one of the kids in the audience and was put on camera during one segment, when I sang about 3 or 4 verses of "He's Got The Whole World in His Hands". This was a little unusual as not very many African-American children were ever seen on television...but there I was...singing my heart out!
I also got scared a little when Curley was doing some tricks and I cried when he shot a playing card with his cap gun! It just startled me a bit and my mother and brother consoled me...after all, I was about 4 or 5 years old at the time!!!! But, I think Harlow felt sorry for me that I got so scared and that is why he let me sing!!! What a great moment...that's why I remember it all like it was yesterday! Thanks for such a fond memory!!!
Sincerely,
Sharyn Shields Jones
